Central Thailand and Gulf of Thailand in 9 Days – Day 3
Koh Samui is the second-largest developed island of the country, and is very touristy. I have visited the island last year and explored the sightseeings of the island mainland. The image of Koh Samui in my mind is palm-fringed shoreline and coastal lowlands loaded with coconut trees. Though I am not much fond of the beaches of Koh Samui, I still chose to revisit this island to explore Ang Thong National Marine Park – a paradise for snorkeling and kayaking.
Highlights of the Day
- Travel from Bangkok to Koh Samui via Surat Thani
- Check in at Dream Field Resort
Bangkok to Koh Samui via Surat Thani
Pool House Service Residence hotel near Don Mueang served us a simple English breakfast along with Thai doughnuts (Pa Thong Ko) as a highlight. The stay included a free drop to Don Mueang Airport, and we reached the airport within 15 min from the hotel by their car.
I chose to fly to Surat Thani due to cheaper flight prices and flight frequency.
There are other options to reach Koh Samui from Bangkok. There are overnight bus and also overnight train from Bangkok to Chumphon, and then ferry from Chumphon to Koh Samui. You may also fly to Chumphon instead of Surat Thani and then connect to Koh Samui by ferry.
Our journey involved three legs:
- Fly from Don Mueang Airport to Surat Thani airport
- Bus from Surat Thani airport to Donsak pier (our bus left at 11.20 AM. It takes 1.5 h to reach the pier from the airport)
- Ferry from Donsak pier, Surat Thani to Nathon Pier, Koh Samui (it took another 1.5 h to reach Koh Samui from Surat Thani by ferry)
Dream Field Resort
We reached Nathon Pier at 2.30 PM. You would find many songthaews waiting outside the Nathon pier once you reach. You can just share the ride with other fellow travelers to your hotel on any of the popular beaches, like Chaweng, Bophut, Lamai, Bangrak, etc.
Our resort was in Bangrak Beach, just 1 minute away from the beach.
I had booked 2 beautiful rooms in Dream Field Resort for 2 nights. We were welcomed with a welcome drink – exactly what we needed after such a lengthy trip. The staff was very friendly and the owners were more than welcoming.
Sleep Soon
We have to explore Ang Thong National Park and the tour starts early, so we are supposed to hit the bed early. See you tomorrow with more pictures!

That’s a great article. We are traveling to Thailand in just a few months. What would you say we should budget for accommodation and food (budget hotels/restaurants nothing fancy)? I am not familiar with local currency yet so either usd/gbp/eur value would be helpful! Thanks!
Great news. You need to tell me which places you plan to visit so I can give you a recommendation about budget and food as well. 1 USD equals to around 33 THB.
Wow, i must say the place looks absolutely stunning, and the rooms look beautiful, the food looks amazing, for three days it’s an amazing find i must say. 😀
Yes it is.
Sounds like a lengthy journey to get there, but I’m sure it will be worth it! I don’t know that I could stay in that black and white room though! It’s a bit too hypnotizing for me…
Totally worth it, trust me!
Loved the butterfly themed room, I would love to go there for a holiday. Been following all your Thailand posts.
Please do follow!
Good to know, another point to upcoming trip to South East Asia.
Totally!
Not my kind of place as I don’t like murales and optical patterns in the room where I sleep but seems a good option for young travelers!
Oh, you don’t? I loved it, though. What type of rooms would you prefer?
I am not a big fan of Koh Samui but it is easy and inexpensive to get to. If you don’t have a lot of time, there are lots of discount airlines in Thailand. I am sure that you could find a flight for a really good deal. The resort looks very funky and fun. Nice find!
The resort was the highlight of our stay.
That’s a pretty nice resort—simple yet cozy. I love those wall paintings.
We were awestruck at the interesting interior of the Koh Samui stay.
A nice rustic place. Looks very authentic. I would love to plan a trip to Thailand next year, but have no idea of what to see, where to go and how much it will cost.
Mail me number of days and the month you are planning to come. I would share a suitable itinerary with you.
That is a nicely described post on travel and looks very economical to me! The Seatran ferry looks interesting. I remember my ferry in Andaman and Nicobar islands from Port Blair to Havelock. It was raining very heavily and women started singing songs forming a small group among all passengers.. it was a lovely atmosphere.
Good to know that!
Your post is really making me miss Thailand. I had such amazing experience exploring the islands in Thailand. Looks like you had an amazing place to stay. Love the details of ferry services. Sometimes its difficult to gauge what the transportation is like with ferries as well as what is offered on board.
The ferries are really safe and good here.
