Ultimate Bali in 9 Days – Day 3
Richie and I always look out for eco-friendly accommodation during our travel, which suits our pocket too. Ubud is known for plenty of such hotels, guest houses, and lodges. After a detailed research over the Internet, we had decided to stay in Firefly Eco-Lodge in Ubud for 3 nights. We are so glad that we made the best decision. We feel it is the best ecostay in Ubud that suits our taste and our budget too. Firefly Eco-Lodge is a unique place, and not any average hotel. It is meant for adventurous travelers who want to have an unforgettable experience in nature. It is a hidden spot literally just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Ubud with its restaurants and shops. But it feels like lost in time and like a total retreat. I would rate it 10/10. I am more than happy to share my experience here.
Highlights of the Day
- Travel to Ubud
- Lunch in Loving Hut, Denpasar
- Firefly Eco-Lodge
From Uluwatu to Ubud via Denpasar
After spending our first day in PinkCoco Bali in Uluwatu, we experienced something unique on our second day. We stayed in Bubble Hotel in Uluwatu itself. You can read about it here.
It was around 9 AM in the morning. As the day passes, it starts getting hotter in the bubble. Without any delay, we took a cool shower in the open, packed our belongings, and checked out.
Our main luggage was stored in the luggage room on the top of the hill. It took us around 45 min to hike up. We had some yummy dragon fruit and coconut water from a local shop nearby. Instead of booking a taxi in GoJek app, which I would usually prefer doing, I hired a car with driver today. Budi is the name of our driver who picked us up from there at around 11 AM. Ubud is around 60 km north of Uluwatu and in the middle of the route, lies Denpasar – the capital city of Bali. We stopped there for lunch.
Firefly Eco-Lodge is located in Central Bali. Including the lunch stop, it took us around 3 h to reach Firefly Eco-Lodge, Ubud.
Firefly Eco-Lodge
If you are adventurous and curious enough to experience uncommon, unusual places to stay, then this is for you! Firefly Eco-Lodge is located in the middle of secluded rice fields. We reached there after a short hike through the rice fields in the heart of Ubud. To me, it is more than just an accommodation – it is an experience.
Firefly Eco-Lodge has different types of accommodations. We were adventurous enough; so on our 3-day stay in there, we experienced 3 different kind of properties. On the first day, we stayed in the top bunk of Birds Nest. On the second day, we stayed in the Bamboo Eco-Cottage. Finally, on the third day, we stayed in the Red Room.
Birds Nest
If you are ready for an adventure and do not mind walking 5 m up a steep ladder to a unique sleeping experience, then Birds Nest is for you! You will find yourself in a woven basket with a cozy bed tucked inside with a view in every direction.
Bamboo Eco-Cottage
This is the best of all properties in Firefly Eco-Lodge, according to me. It is a quaint house with a straw roof. Palm trees and rice fields – dreamy! Sleeping in nature is something most of us don’t do as we sleep in sealed rooms. It can be transformative to sleep in a natural setting. Do not let the unusual openness of the space deter you, this is an experience you will remember forever!
Red Room
Do you like the idea of spending your holiday secluded in nature and the rice-fields without giving up comforts? Then you surely need one of the rooms attached to the living area here.
Common Living Space
Firefly Eco-Lodge has created a space that combines modern design with bohemian rustic styles and recycled elements. They have sourced the best local craftsman to incorporate the outdoors with the indoor and let you enjoy elements of Bali while living in style.
In the evening, we went out for a short walk in the surrounding rice fields. Soon, we came across a handcrafted organic coconut soap factory. We bought many gifts for friends and families from there.
Goodnight!
We had a great time exploring the property and meeting the cats – the real owners of the property. We had dinner in the common space of the eco-lodge and slept comfortably in the top bunk of the Birds Nest. Climbing was a bit scary in the dark; however, we managed to have a great sleep finally!

Your comment is valuable, Richie. Thanks for this, every time.
Wow I’m in love with that beach! We were last in Ubud 3 years ago and loved it. Sadly, we never made it to that secret spot. I’m also not great with heights so will have to leave the birds nest to others!
Yes Lisa, you can totally stay in the Bamboo Eco-cottage, it is really beautiful.
Green Bowl beach is dreamy. Thanks for a heads up about the monkey though. I’m not comfortable around them because I got bitten once. Firefly Ecolodge looks dreamy, too. I want to climb to the bird’s nest and an outdoor showers is one of the things I like about accommodation in Bali. I must go back to Bali soon!
Bali is waiting, for you!
Oh wow this beach looks amazing! I would love to stay in this area in Ubud.. It is so good to know that with Firefly Ecolodge there are eco-friendly options in the area.
Yes, there are many indeed. This one’s our favorite.
This has serious come at the right timing for me as I am planning to go to Uluwatu in a month’s time. What I find so fascinating about this part of Bali is all the secret beaches and Green Bowl Beach looks like a beach I need to look out for on my trip. And yesss so glad you went to Cashew Tree – one of my favorite cafes in Uluwatu. Whilst I am not vegan myself, I appreciate all the tasty vegan options for sure. And the Firefly Ecolodge – wow looks incredible!
I am glad to know that you found this helpful, Soraya.
Wow this place looks marvellous. 1milliion looked expensive but then I checked the inr rate and was so surprised. The common living soaxe looks so awesome and the beach is just made of dreams
I love beaches and yes, this one was just out of the dream.
We totally share the same taste in accomodation. We are always attracted to the off-the grid eco-friendly unique hotels. I absolutely LOVE everything about the Firefly eco-lodge: the litle woven pods where you sleep, the bamboo ladder, the thatched roofs, and all of it in the middle of a rice field! I wish you cold sense the jealousy in my voice, because I wish I was there right now, Definitely making a note to stay here when we visit!!
The place is like a paradise for nature-lovers. You will surely love your time there.
Firefly Eco-Lodge would be a great place to stay. I like how you explained that it isn’t just accommodation, but also an experience. That’s quite the ladder to climb to the Bird’s Nest! I think I would end up choosing the Red Room 🙂
Yes, you will love it there.
A gem of an idea for a place to stay in Bali — great that you found, enjoyed and wrote about it! The eco hotel is definitely something I would love to experience, this is taking glamping out in nature to another level. Among rice fields and under the stars even makes it more and more interesting to try out. I pinned it!
Yes, it’s the best, believe me.
The outdoor baths are my favourite part of Bali! I didn’t manage to stay in Ubud unfortunately, I wish I had, but in the bamboo cottage that I stayed at in Gili Trawangan, it was a lot like the one you stayed at and I absolutely loved the experience. Green Bowl Beach in Uluwatu looks pretty damn good too, and such a hidden gem!
Next time, you must experience Ubud.
This place looks amazing. I did hear about it before and was considering it for my last trip to Bali but decided to stay elsewhere. I would definitely choose it for my next visit though, after reading this review.
Sure, that would be great.
What a lovely place to stay. I would opt for the Bird’s nest – just for that adventure. Little beds tucked in the corners and you peep out like a bird too 😀 . I definitely will be looking this one up
Yes Ami, Birds Nest will be fun.
I’m in love with this kind of accommodation lately, a week ago I went to something similar in Croatia. Totally in love, but to be honest this one looks a bit more attractive and interesting to me 🙂 Would love to visit it one day, hope that you enjoyed 🙂
I would love when you visit this place and share your experiences.
I would love to stay at the Firefly Eco-Lodge. I love the idea of staying somewhere so out of the way, up a ladder in a birds nest type of accommodation. That is one of the coolest things that I have ever seen. The pool and bar look fantastic too. Thanks for a fantastic recommendation.
Hope you enjoy, Nicole.
I am curious about the bubble hotel. Do you sleep inside the transparent bubble?
Yes, absolutely.
Wow, green bowl beach looks serene and birds nest looks gorgeous to be at the top bunk, firefly eco lodge seems a great place to relax especially the bathtub, romantic and the bubbles are just gorgeous ❣️
And yup, as always, the cherry on cake are the pics
Your story telling with the details which a traveller should look for getting real experience of places main as well as less travelled, makes one to go and live these experiences…
Keep exploring and sharing, cheers
Your words motivate me much.
There are so many options on the property! Your photographs are beautiful of this property. The pool looked so relaxing.
The property is mind-blowing.
