Fruits For Breakfast in Hakata

Fruits from Hakata Sankaen Fukuoka Japan
Fruits for breakfast is my key to an energetic day

Our morning in Fukuoka began with a delightful choice for breakfast – fresh fruits from Hakata Sankaen, which is just few hundred meters away from the hotel, inside the complex of Hakata Train Station. Opting for a healthy start, we visited this local haven for fruit enthusiasts. The market displayed a vibrant array of seasonal fruits, each radiating natural sweetness and flavors. We handpicked a selection of juicy delights, savoring the burst of freshness with every bite. This simple yet indulgent breakfast from Hakata Sankaen added a touch of local charm to our day, setting the tone for a day filled with exploration and culinary delights.

Packing Bento Box from Rota Cafe

After enjoying our morning meal, we said goodbye to Yaoji Hakata hotel and used the luggage storage service in the hotel for convenience. Our next stop was Rota Cafe, located in the heart of Fukuoka. In a city where vegan options can be elusive, Rota Cafe stands out as a tranquil oasis amid a landscape dominated by famous regional meat dishes. I highly recommend this place in Fukuoka!

Kagoshima, nestled in the southern tip of Kyushu, Japan, boasts a captivating blend of vibrant city life, historic landmarks, and the awe-inspiring presence of Sakurajima, an active volcano overlooking the city

We reached Kagoshima in just 2 hours by Shinkansen from Fukuoka. Kagoshima city has two important stations – Kagoshimachuo station and Kagoshima station. Firstly, we reached Kahoshimachuo station by the Kyushu Shinkansen from Fukuoka. And then, we took a local train from Kagoshimachuo to Kagoshima station via Nippou line. From Kagoshima train station, we opted for a bus that conveniently dropped us at Kiyotaki-Dori – a bustling street in Kagoshima known for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse offerings. We had booked a room in Hotel Watergate Kagoshima, which is just 800 meter walking distance from Kiyotaki-Dori. Yes, this is our first time experience staying in something called “Love Hotel”. It is a common concept in Japan.

Love Hotel in Kagoshima – Hotel Watergate – First-Time Experience

Guests typically book Love Hotels for a few hours or overnight, providing a level of anonymity and flexibility not found in traditional accommodations. The concept originated in the 1960s, and over the years, Love Hotels have become an accepted part of Japanese culture, offering a blend of luxury, fantasy, and discretion for those seeking a unique and intimate escape. Unlike regular hotels that primarily focus on extended stays and a variety of guests, Love Hotels prioritize privacy, comfort, and a thematic experience. Rooms often feature lavish interiors, mood lighting, and amenities geared towards romance. Every corner of the room spelled comfort – air conditioning, a fridge, microwave, kettle, and a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer, all complemented by a delightful sea view.

  1. Kagoshima is such a great stop to add on a Japan itinerary. As tourist numbers spiked up again the main sights like Tokyo and Kyoto are really suffering from overtourism. Kyushu and Kagoshima are still not on the radar of the average tourist. A great place to try a love hotel too!

  2. It sounds like you had a great day in Kagoshima. The fast train must have been an experience for sure. They are the fastest in the world. How funny that you booked a Love hotel. I’ve heard about them but I didn’t know that you can book them for more than a few hours as well. That bed is definitely something haha.

  3. We loved our visit to Japan but your 21 day itinerary is adding so many spots for a return visit. We would definitely not travel around Japan by train. It sounds like the perfect transportation for us. I had never heard of a Love hotel before. But fascinating to learn more about Japan’s approach to romance. Kagoshima looks like a great stop on your trip for both history and architecture. A stop at the Japanese Garden would always be on our plan. Good top to make sure to plan a stay long enough for a day trip to Sakurajima.

  4. Firstly thanks for the comprehensive trip plan sharing. That would definitely come in useful when I do visit Japan. I have not heard of Kagoshima before so I read with interest about your trip. It sounds like a place not yet overrun by over tourism. Riding the Shinkansen is on my bucket list and now I guess staying in a love hotel too πŸ˜€

  5. Everyone who’s been to Japan always told me about riding a Shinkansen. I think it’s an experience in itself. Kagoshima sounds like a beautiful city. The garden and the shrine look pretty. But you got me with the Love Hotel. Sounds intriguing.

  6. Kagoshima looks wonderful! I have done a 3 week tour in Japan using JR railway’s Shinkansen almost a decade ago. I went to Hakata and Mount Aso in Kyushu but missed out on Kagoshima in the far south. I enjoyed reading about the Love Hotel. Kagoshima seems to be the perfect place for history and architecture lovers. Japanese gardens are the best – so well manicured and maintained! Maybe I should do another trip to fill out the places I missed. πŸ™‚

  7. This is great! I was researching for what other cities to include in my Japan itinerary other than the usual destinations, and I think I can add Kagoshima to my list. I will probably also follow your lead and make a day trip to Sakurajima while I’m there.

  8. While planning a trip for one of my clients, Kagoshima was never in my thoughts. It certainly looks a must visit destination in Japan. Will keep that in mind while planning my own trip. Good to know about Love hotels and your comprehensive guide would make my job much easier. The half day trip to Sakurjima looks a great outing.

  9. I agree with you! Taking the Shinkansen is a must-have experience whenever you are in Japan. The view is breathtaking and really beautiful. We haven’t been to the Kagoshima area but we will definitely add it on our itinerary during our next Japan trip.
