Senior Citizen-Friendly Thailand Trip in 12 Days – Day 3
This is the second time I am staying in this hotel after sometime in August, because Baiyoke Sky Hotel itself is a sightseeing building. It is the tallest building of Thailand, and offers dynamic highest views of the city from its 84th revolving floor. It is located at the heart of downtown Bangkok surrounded by bustling markets, like Pratunam market. Staying at the hotel in one of the rooms of space zone for at least one night is an experience by itself.
Highlights of the Day
- Check in at Baiyoke Sky Hotel
- Explore Different Floors of Baiyoke Sky Hotel
- Shopping at Pratunam Market
Baiyoke Sky Hotel
We had sumptuous breakfast at the Valentine Coffe Shop of Krungkasem Srikrung Hotel. Then we checked out and took a taxi to Baiyoke Sky Hotel to have one-of-its-kind experience.
The hotel is divided into three zones: Standard Zone (22nd-45th floors), Sky Zone (46th-63rd floors), and Space Zone (64th-74th floors). There are superior rooms, deluxe rooms, junior suites, superior suites, and presidential suites as well.
We got a 20-min foot massage voucher for free when we checked in.
I would advise you to stay in any room at the space zone because it is a one-time experience after all staying at such height, or if you are choosing to stay in the space zone, then choose the superior suite. We booked a room at space zone with an extra bed for a night.
There are a lot many things to explore in the hotel itself:
- You can try the tasty tropical fresh fruits at Fruit Court on 18th floor
- You can also play some golf at Baiyoke Golf Range, the highest open-air golf range in Thailand, decorated in country style on 18th floor
- Enjoy sun-bath, physical exercise, gymming or open-air swimming on 20th floor
- Relax and rejuvenate with the traditional Thai and international massages on 20th floor
- Check out the replica of floating market on 75th floor
- Do not miss out the various entertainment on 76th and 78th floors
- Take the highest transparent elevator in Thailand on ground floor and 77th floors
- You can enjoy the beautiful sunrise on 76th and 78th floors
- You can dine at the highest open-air restaurant in Thailand with four sky-box outdoor balconies, on 81st floor
- Enjoy drinks, loud music, and party at Roof-Top Bar at night on 83rd floor
- It is a must to visit the top of the building to see the full view of Bangkok City from the revolving floor on 84th floor
Shopping at Pratunam Market
The popular fashion market – Pratunam Market – is situated in a stone’s throw from Baiyoke Sky Hotel.
I am really sorry as I did not click any pictures of Pratunam Market.
Pratunam Market includes shopping complexes and maze of alleys. They are filled with thousands of tiny shops selling fashion wear and accessories in wholesale. Sometimes, the prices are cheaper than Chatuchak Weekend Market.
My favorite is the City Complex – a fashionable shopping mall mostly for females. Platinum Mall on the opposite of that – a fashionable mall both for men and women – is also my favorite.
There are a lot of street food in Pratunam market. I did not want to miss out tasting few street delicacies of Thailand as dinner.
Senior Citizen-Friendly Thailand Trip in 12 Days – Day 4
Highlights of the Day
- Buffet breakfast at Baiyoke Sky Hotel
- Check out from hotel at Bangkok and fly to Krabi
- Check in at Ideal Beds Hostel, Ao Nang Beach, Krabi
Breakfast at Baiyoke Sky Hotel
The highest international breakfast buffet in town takes place in Bangkok Sky Restaurant located on 76th and 78th floors of Baiyoke Sky Hotel.
Make sure you reach there on time as they start wrapping up by 10 AM. The breakfast time is 6 AM to 10 AM.
The breakfast buffet caters specialty Japanese, Thai, Indian, European, Chinese, and Vietnamese food.
The beautiful decor right next to the glass windows that offers you beautiful morning view of the city while having breakfast is a memorable experience. Even the service is impeccable – especially the service at the live counters where the chef would make your food exactly the way you like it.
Bangkok to Krabi
Air Asia, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air offer flights to Krabi at cheaper rates than other airlines. Our flight was with Nok Air, and all these flights depart from Don Mueang International Airport, Bangkok.
There are many ways to go to Don Mueang Airport from Baiyoke Sky Hotel:
- If you are more than 2 people, it is convenient to take a taxi from the hotel to the airport. There is no BTS or MRT near Baiyoke Sky Hotel. This will cost you around 300 ฿.
- If you are alone or in couple and want to save money, you can take the hourly free shuttle van from the hotel to Ratchathewi BTS. Then take BTS to Mochit station for 41 ฿ each and from there take the A1 or A2 airport bus for 30 ฿.
- If you have missed the hourly free shuttle van and do not have time to wait for the next van, you can ask the hotel to drop you at Ratchaprarop airport link. It is only 270 m away from Baiyoke Sky Hotel. The hotel guys would usually do it for free by their hotel tuk-tuk. From there, you can take airport link to Phaya Thai (city line) for 15 ฿ and BTS from Phaya Thai to Mochit for around 34 ฿, and take the A1 or A2 airport bus from Mochit BTS bus station for 30 ฿. We wanted to try different modes of transport, so we opted for this one – which overall cost us 79 ฿ per person.
The flight from Bangkok to Krabi takes 1 h 20 min.
Once you get down from the flight and collect your luggage from the belt, you would find many public transport options at the airport to different beaches of Krabi.
Krabi Airport to Hostel at Ao Nang
The airport bus took around an hour to reach Ideal Beds Hostel. The hostel is only 1 min walking from Ao Nang Beach.
Our hostel was at Ao Nang and we opted for the airport bus service. The buses serve destinations in Ao Nang and Krabi Town only. Buses leave 8-10 times daily between 8 am-8 pm (approximately), or when the buses are full with passengers.
Ideal Beds Hostel, Ao Nang Beach, Krabi
The hostel is located within 200 m distance from Ao Nang Beach, and has mixed dorm beds. I opted for 3 beds in the 4-bedded mixed dorm.
We did not try anything interesting for dinner, but usual Pad Thai (Thai-style fried noodles). Tomorrow, we are going for Phi-Phi island tour! Read the following post to know more about it.

I must say that a complimentary massage is always a great bonus! Although I’d probably stick to the standard zone as I’m not that comfortable after a certain height. I think floor 30 would be my limit.
Try the 72nd one. It’s crazy!
I had just half a day in Krabi coming back from the islands so I didn’t get to see much. The hotel looks very nice – but finally almost every hotel from four stars up is amazing in Thailand. Of course, the complimentary massage adds to the relaxation – wonderful!
The hotel is absolutely an experience.
I love how detailed you write about the hotel, food and transportation. It allows people to really decide whether the hotel and transfer is right for them. I also love the complimentary foot massage.
Oh yes, who says no to complimentary foot massage!
It must be the neatest hostel bed I’ve ever seen. Thanks for sharing the details about the expenses, helps to budget a lot!
Thanks.
Although I read about this hotel I choice to stay in the other during by 2 nights stay in Bangkok. And, now after reading this review I feel like i made a big mistake by not staying here. The views are simple amazing!
Even I stayed there for the view and the buffet breakfast though.
The sky hotel looks amazing! The view is incredible and any accommodation that offers a free 20 min foot massage when checking in is a winner in my book. It’s so cool they have a market and golf course at the hotel too.
Free massages are bliss!
Like the description of the transportation. When I was there we had problems to get around as no one spoke English.
The condition is much better now in Thailand.
I’ve been to Bangkok numerous times and I will probably give this a go the next time. I love a hotel with sky views and usually seek this out. The market is nice as well since you don’t have to go out to the night market if you don’t want.
Yes Maureen, you would actually like this hotel.
I love to find new places to stay at this way. Looks like a really nice place, and I would definitely take an advantage of the foot massage as well. I have not been to Thailand yet, but hopefully this upcoming year I get to visit.
Yes Paula, surely.
The Baiyoke Sky Hotel looks fun. It would take me a full day to explore all that it has to offer. I would definitely stay in the Space Zone. This is the first time I have heard of a hotel giving a complimentary 20 minute foot massage. Just what I would love to experience.
True, it can actually take a whole day just to explore all the corners of the hotel.
Baiyoke Sky Hotel looks amazing. I loved how the hotel floors have been segmented as normal, sky and space zones. Although I would not be comfortable in the space zone but would love to see the view from there. The 20 minutes of free foot massage is a great deal.
You would love it, Pooja, even in the Space Zone.
There is a lot to do at Baiyoke Sky Hotel! No wonder you returned. I especially love the idea of a complimentary foot rub, because travel can be so hard on the feet. That alone may be worth the visit LOL. I also would welcome the chance to watch a sunrise from my room, The rooms look neat, clean, and modern, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book a room based on your recommendation. Thanks, Shreya!
Yes Jackie, that’s one of my favorite hotels in Bangkok.
The Baiyoke Sky Hotel has been an iconic landmark building in the Bangkok skyline for many years. I had the pleasure of visiting this property years ago and must say it did have some amazing views of the city. The hotel seems to have had a spruce up in the last few years and it’s much better now. A Thai foot massage is absolutely amazing after a long day of sightseeing the city and a great way to relax specially when it might be complimentary. Overall it is a great place and thanks for bringing back memories.
Yes Amar, Thai foot massages are mandatory.
Interesting that one place has it all. The hotel itself is a destination that one need not get out of. And it makes sense for the seniors who like to avoid the crowds and yet need to have fun. The complimentary foot massage is a definite plus. Good to see such thoughtful bits in this itinerary.
Exactly, you need to spend a whole day in the hotel just to explore the whole property.
